Floor vs. Flow

Two systems. One specialist who meets you where you are.

The Floor (Pelvic Floor Therapy )

The Flow (Lymphatic System)

Your foundation of support, stability, and control

Your body’s drainage, detox, and inflammation regulator

Common Signs the Floor Needs Support:

Common Signs Flow Is Sluggish:

  • Pelvic pain, pressure, or heaviness
  • Bladder leakage, urgency, or frequency
  • Constipation or difficulty emptying
  • Pain with penetration or intercourse
  • Tailbone, hip, SI, or low back pain
  • Pregnancy, postpartum, or hormonal changes
  • Chronic swelling or heaviness
  • Bloating or fluid retention
  • Tender or fibrotic tissue
  • Easy bruising
  • Lipedema, lymphedema, or venous disease
  • Post-surgical swelling or slow recovery

Why Seeing Someone Who Understands Both Matters

Your pelvic floor and lymphatic system don’t work in isolation. When the floor isn’t coordinating well, pressure builds. When flow is impaired, inflammation and swelling increase.

Yet many people with symptoms are never properly diagnosed.

Even fewer are referred to pelvic floor physical therapy.

1 in 4 women suffer from pelvic dysfunction.

Because these symptoms are frequently minimized or labeled as “normal,” many individuals go years without answers—or the care that could truly help. Our goal is to close that gap by increasing access, awareness, and education around pelvic floor health.

Pelvic Floor Therapy

When lymphatic flow slows, symptoms like bloating, heaviness, swelling, pain, and inflammation can build over time.

10–12% of women have lipedema
and many don’t even know it.

Your body contains 600–700 lymph nodes, working quietly to filter waste and support healing.

Unlike your heart, the lymphatic system has no pump.
It relies on breathing, movement, and manual stimulation to function properly.

Lymphatics (Flow) Therapy

Your pelvic floor is central to your body’s functioning, so dysfunction can look different for everyone. It is also not an area that health care providers think to refer out for often. If you think you could benefit from pelvic floor therapy but are not sure, please reach out!
Lymphatic Therapy includes Complete Decongestive Therapy, which has a phase of reducing the amount of swelling and then maintaining the new size.

This can benefit those with:

  • Venous Insufficiency
  • Lipedema
  • Lymphedema
  • Post-Surgical Swelling
  • Primary or Congenital Lympathatic Disorders
  • Post-radiation for oncologic treatments
  • Refitting of lymphedema garments

Not everyone with swelling concerns needs significant reduction. If your swelling is mild, then you may benefit from lymphatic wellness instead!

While we do not bill insurance directly, many patients choose to use HSA or FSA cards for eligible services. Some insurance plans may also offer out-of-network reimbursement—though coverage varies.

We’re always happy to provide a detailed receipt (superbill) upon request so you can check with your insurance provider if reimbursement is available.

Unrushed Care

Endometriosis had me in constant pelvic pain, and I didn’t realize how much my pelvic floor was contributing until seeing Dr. Bri. Her internal work, breathing retraining, and gentle manual therapy eased pain I’ve lived with for years. She truly understands endo patients and how sensitive our bodies can be.”

-Racheal

I started seeing Dr. Bri during my second trimester for pubic symphysis and low back pain. She taught me how to move, sleep, and lift without triggering pain. Her hands-on work gave immediate relief, and the exercises were realistic for pregnancy. She made me feel comfortable every step of the way.”

-S.W.

After having my baby, I had leaking, pressure, and didn’t feel like myself. Dr. Bri helped me reconnect to my core and pelvic floor in a way that felt safe and gentle. She never rushed me and always validated how hard postpartum can be. I finally feel strong again.”

-Emma

“I didn’t realize how swollen and tender my chest would feel after my breast cancer surgery. Brianne helped with lymphatic drainage that eased the pressure and made me so much more comfortable. She also taught me scar care and posture tips. She’s amazing. Every cancer survivor should be referred to her.”

-Emily

“I’ve struggled with constipation for years, and no one ever checked my pelvic floor. Dr. Bri identified tightness and taught me techniques to relax and coordinate my muscles. She also used some massage to help move things along. I left every session needing to go and feeling regular!!! My bowel movements are finally regular again and that has helped my daily life tremendously.”

-Sam

“I came to Dr. Bri after years of being dismissed about my legs. For the first time, someone actually understood lipedema and how it affects pain, swelling, and mobility. Her lymphatic work helped my heaviness so much, and she taught me how to choose compression that actually fits my body. I wish I found her sooner.”

-Dana

“I came to Brianne for lymphatic and pelvic floor work due to chronic inflammation and what I think is the beginning of autoimmune arthritis which runs in my family. Her approach is unlike anything I’ve tried. My bloating, swelling, and pain have all improved, and I finally feel like someone understands how everything connects. I wish I could have sent my family to her before their diagnosis!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Optimize different from other physical therapy clinics?

I specialize in pelvic floor and lymphatic therapy under one roof — a niche pairing that allows me to address the root cause of inflammation, swelling, bloating, pelvic pain, and mobility issues. You’re not rushed, you get 1:1 care, and we actually listen to your body’s story.

Do I need a referral to start physical therapy?

In Missouri, you can book your initial evaluation without a physician referral. If one becomes necessary for ongoing treatment, I handle the communication with your provider.

Do males have pelvic floors?

YES. Every human has a pelvic floor — men included.
Men can experience pelvic floor tension, urinary leaking, urgency, testicular or groin pain, constipation, tailbone pain, and even sexual dysfunction due to pelvic floor dysfunction. I treat men and women!

Do I have to be postpartum or have had kids to benefit from pelvic floor therapy?

 Absolutely not.
Pelvic floor dysfunction can happen in people who have never been pregnant. Reasons someone may need pelvic floor therapy even if they’ve never had kids:
  • Chronic constipation or straining
  • Leaking with workouts or sneezing
  • Pelvic pain or pain with intercourse
  • Tailbone pain
  • Hip, low back, or SI joint tightness
  • Urinary frequency (feeling like you always have to go)
  • Athletic injuries (especially lifting and running)
  • “Mystery” bloating or pressure in the lower abdomen
  • Difficulty relaxing or pelvic tension due to stress
Pelvic floor therapy is not just for postpartum — it’s for anyone with a pelvis

My kids are grown… is it too late to fix pelvic floor issues?

It is NEVER too late.
Whether it’s been 6 months… or 26 years… your pelvic floor is made of muscles and connective tissue. Muscles adapt at every age, and we can retrain them.
You don’t have to live with leaking, pressure, or pain just because someone once told you it’s “normal” or “part of aging.” It’s not.

I’m not sure if it’s my lymphatic system or my pelvic floor. How do I know?

 You don’t have to know.
I evaluate both systems because they are highly connected — fluid congestion increases pelvic tension, and pelvic tension restricts lymph flow. We follow your body’s response and choose what works best for you.

Can you help with lipedema?

Yes. I am trained in lymphatic therapy and work with many clients who have lipedema or suspect they do.
I help reduce pain, inflammation, swelling, and heaviness through gentle manual lymphatic drainage and movement-based flow.

Can you help me order compression garments and lymphatic pumps?

Yes. During sessions, I help measure, select, and guide you through ordering the correct compression (not all compression is appropriate for lipedema). I also help with pneumatic compression pump recommendations and can coordinate with vendors and physicians if needed.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider, which means your treatment plan is based on what you need, not what insurance approves. I provide superbills for reimbursement upon request.

What does a lymphatic therapy session look like?

Gentle, calming, 90-minute treatments that support drainage, reduce inflammation, and decrease pain. No machines, no gimmicks — hands-on therapy that supports flow.

Is internal pelvic floor work required?

Never. It’s an option, not an obligation. We have plenty of external techniques that are just as effective.

Do you take HSA or FSA cards?

Yes — HSA/FSA cards can be used for therapy sessions (and sometimes wellness sessions depending on your plan).

Why are you out-of-network?

Some folks, depending on their plan and coverage, actually save money when going out-of-network. Being out-of-network allows me to:
  • See you 1:1 for the entire session
  • Treat the root cause, not just what insurance “approves”
  • Use the full pelvic + lymphatic model without restrictions
Insurance limits time, techniques, and number of visits. I don’t believe in limiting your healing.
If you have good coverage- awesome! You can still choose to see me or use your hospital providers who are also amazing!

Can I purchase gift cards or sessions for someone else?

Yes — and wellness sessions make a perfect gift for post-op clients, mamas, and anyone who needs a reset.

Can my wellness session turn into therapy if something comes up?

Yes. If during a wellness visit you mention a new concern or symptom, we can shift to a therapy session. Your body guides the plan.

Pelvic Floor Therapy & Lymphatic Care support many systems of the body
