That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I say that confidently because <strong>I was that person too.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I became a pelvic PT, I struggled with painful periods, urinary frequency, and pelvic symptoms \u2014 and instead of being given options, I was simply handed birth control and told, \u201cThis is normal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No one ever mentioned pelvic floor therapy.<br>No one ever explained inflammation, lymphatic flow, or pelvic muscle tension.<br>No one ever asked why I was getting up to pee 3\u20134 times a night or why I panicked if I didn\u2019t know where the nearest bathroom was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I just dealt with it.<br>And that\u2019s exactly why I speak so strongly about early conservative care now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>The Pelvic Floor Doesn\u2019t Only Change After Childbirth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Postpartum changes are just one scenario where pelvic floor therapy helps \u2014 but there are so many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your pelvic floor responds to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>inflammation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hormones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bowel habits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>posture and movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pelvic congestion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>surgery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>breathing mechanics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lymphatic flow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>None of those require childbirth to become dysfunctional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you have a pelvis, you have a pelvic floor.<br>If you have symptoms, your pelvic floor is involved.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Painful Periods Are NOT Normal \u2014 They\u2019re Early Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Painful periods are one of the first signs that something in the pelvic system needs support. This is the time when conservative care should start \u2014 not years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When patients (including teens and young adults) tell me they\u2019ve been having \u201cbad periods\u201d since middle school or high school, I hear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>inflammation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pelvic floor tension<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>hormonal imbalance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lymphatic congestion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bowel pressure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nervous system sensitivity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not \u201cthat\u2019s just how it is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone had told me this earlier, my whole story would\u2019ve looked different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Why Painful Cycles Happen \u2014 And How the Pelvic Floor Plays a Role<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Painful periods often come from a mix of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Inflammation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Inflammation increases cramping intensity and makes tissues more reactive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Pelvic floor tension<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the pelvis hurts, the muscles guard \u2014 which makes everything more painful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Bowel involvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Constipation or poor emptying puts pressure on the pelvic floor and uterus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Lymphatic congestion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t clear inflammatory waste well, period symptoms worsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Stress and nervous system overdrive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The brain-body connection plays a huge role in pelvic pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again \u2014 none of this requires pregnancy to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Signs You Need Pelvic Floor Therapy (No Matter Your Age or Reproductive History)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may benefit from pelvic PT if you have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>painful periods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>stabbing pelvic pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>urinary urgency or frequency<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>getting up to pee at night<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bloating that feels pressure-like<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>constipation or difficulty emptying<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>pain with intimacy or tampon insertion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>low back, SI, or hip pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>feelings of heaviness or tightness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>difficulty relaxing your pelvic muscles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These symptoms are not \u201cnormal woman issues.\u201d<br>They\u2019re treatable and shouldn\u2019t be ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>Why Early Conservative Care Matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the biggest myths is that pelvic floor therapy is only for postpartum women. That belief keeps so many people suffering unnecessarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Early pelvic PT:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>prevents chronic pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>decreases inflammation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supports hormonal balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improves bowel and bladder function<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduces pelvic floor overactivity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improves long-term pelvic health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>builds a strong foundation before pregnancy (if it\u2019s part of your future)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The earlier we address symptoms, the easier they are to resolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And I am living proof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>My Story \u2014 And Why I Advocate So Strongly for You<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I had any children, I finally went through pelvic floor therapy myself.<br>And I no longer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>get up 3\u20134 times a night<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>worry about where the nearest bathroom is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>live in fear of long car rides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>feel \u201con edge\u201d around my cycle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>accept pelvic symptoms as normal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It changed my life long before I ever considered having a family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s why I tell every patient: <strong>You probably won\u2019t be told to go to pelvic PT \u2014 so you have to advocate for yourself.<\/strong><br>If your body is telling you something, you deserve support.<br>Not a dismissal.<br>Not a band-aid.<br>Not \u201cjust deal with it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>What Treatment Looks Like With Me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My holistic approach includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>pelvic floor retraining<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lymphatic drainage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>diaphragmatic + rib mechanics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>core coordination and SI stability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bowel and bladder mechanics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>fascial and scar mobility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>nervous system down-training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cycle-specific education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>personalized home strategies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We treat the <em>whole system<\/em>, not just one muscle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>You Deserve Care Before Symptoms Become Chronic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t need to have had a baby to seek help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You just need to be tired of feeling this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Painful periods, urinary frequency, pelvic pain, and bloating are not something you have to live with \u2014 and the sooner we address them, the faster your body can heal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If I could get every woman and teen to understand one thing, it would be this: You do not need to have had a baby to need pelvic floor therapy.You just need symptoms.
